| The Arthur B. Homer, loaded with
ore, was in a head-on collision, October 5, 1972, with the unloaded Greek salty
Navishipper at Buoy 83 in the Detroit River's Fighting Island Channel. Navishipper
reportedly had no licensed pilot aboard at the time, a violation of Maritime law. There
were no injuries, but the Homer suffered extensive bow damage up to and including part of
her pilothouse. The Homer was repaired at the American Ship Building Co., Lorain, OH and
on April 10, 1973 she departed the shipyard with a new pilot house. Data from Ahoy & Farewell II |
