Launched March 9, 1945 as the "Victory" ship a) NOTRE DAME VICTORY for the U.S. Maritime Commission. 455' X 62' X 34'5"; 7606 grt. Powered by a 9,350 hp steam turbine and two water tube boilers. Purchased by Cleveland-Cliffs S.S. Co. December of 1950, hull lengthened to 620' at Baltimore, MD and renamed b) CLIFFS VICTORY. Towed up the Mississippi River to South Chicago, arriving there May 9, 1951 to complete the conversion at American Ship Building's Yard. She was known for her high speed runs and distinctive profile. Lengthened in 1957 to 713' at S. Chicago. Laid up in 1981 at S. Chicago. Sold foreign in 1985 for scrap. Renamed c) Savic, she left the Lakes under her own power and arrived at Masan, S. Korea in December, 1986 for dismantling.
