I believe you are referring to the ONOKO (her correct spelling) - she was actually made of Iron (not steel) and while considered by many (incorrectly) to be the 1st iron lake style bulk freighter, she was in fact, the second. The BRUNSWICK was the first iron bulk freighter built to haul ore, when she was launched in 1881 by the Detroit Dry Dock Co at Wyandotte for Charles Bewick, et. al....Hope this helps.
