Where can I locate information or drawings on "typical" anchoring equipment used circa 1890 on a steamer? Most of this equipment appears to be on the main deck and enclosed within the focsle. Was that done to protect against the elements? I also notice there is a door in that area on either side of the bow for the stowing of the anchor and only the stock is visible in the photo. In many pictures this door also appearts to be the upper half of the rail not the bottom where the anchor would lay on the deck. How was the anchor dropped or hoisted? Was this door a two part door like the freight doors? If so is there anything to establisth that design?
