Comments Sheer is the curve of a deck as it relates to fore and aft. To put it another way on many vessels the bow and stern and high and the center is lower. That is the Sheer. In the picture at the above link you can see how the spar deck is slightly curved. In that picture you can also see a line that goes around the stern of the Mississagi where the angle/curve of the stern changes sharply. This is the knuckle.
