First, if doing any scaling, be disciplined with your math and terminology or all is lost! 1:8 scale means one-eighth the size of the original... which would be rather large! Not to be confused with 1/8" = 1 foot scale, aka 1:96 scale. Many 1:96'ers use HO ladders and such for details. But best to build it right from the start... the scaling exercise is tiny compared to amount of work you'll put into the job.
