The Father Dowling on-line collection had photos of the Detroit and Manitowoc: http://www.dalnet.lib.mi.us/gsdl/cgi-bin/library?p=about&c=shipping I agree that the Dossin Great Lakes Museum has some great car ferry models. I just wish I remembered exactly which boats. I was there briefly last Saturday and they had a model of the Lansdowne on display as well as a waterline model of one of the Pere Marquette's river boats. Models of a Pere Marquette Lake Michigan boat and one of the Mackinaw Transportation boats (I think the St. Marie I) were on display as well. They also have a full hull model of a Pere Marquette river boat but I didn't see it Saturday (they rotate the models on display). They also sell, or at least used to sell, modelers plans for the 1888 Michigan Central ferry Transfer II, which had a single screw as well as two side wheels.
